Excessive sweating from the Armpits is a medical condition where a person sweats excessively, much more than the body needs to to regulate its temperature. It can be a disabling condition and many people have a real loss of confidence, cannot wear certain clothing and dread holidays in hot countries. It is also of concern to teachers, lecturers and anyone presenting at meetings or in business. Stressful situations, again are times when sweating is a problem. Sweat also stains and ruins clothing. The ‘over the counter’ and prescription antiperspirants are often irritant to the skin and require constant reapplication.
Botox works to help stop excessive sweating by blocking the nerve impulses that stimulate the sweat glands contract and release sweat onto the body.
Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating in areas on the body such as the armpits, hands, feet or face (shown below).
About 1-2 days before a treatment you should shave the area. On the day the skin is cleansed and local aesthetic cream is applied. After 30 minutes the skin is numb. The 15-20 tiny injections placed just under the surface of the skin are therefore painless. The treatment takes around 20 minutes.
There may be a slight ‘cat scratch’ appearance of the underarms for a couple of days.
Non alcohol antiperspirant should be used for the first few days. The effects start to come on after 36-48 hours with full results at about 2 weeks.
The effects of Botox usually last from six to eight months, with results of the treatment visible within 2 weeks after the treatment.
